About Paul

I have always wanted to be a photographer. It was my dream job since the age of 13.

When I started dreaming about being a photographer I imagined myself sitting on the touchline at Anfield with a telephoto lens photographing the stars of Liverpool FC, getting paid to watch football! It didn’t quite work out that way and I ended up finishing school and working freelance for the local newspapers. Being out and about everyday as a local press photographer taught me a lot about handling people and getting them to relax in front of the camera.

One day, a friend asked me to photograph his wedding. I never imagined myself being a wedding photographer but I accepted the commission and I really enjoyed the buzz of photographing a wedding. And so my career as a wedding photographer began. I bought as many books and attend as many classes as I could on the subject and was soon advertising my services at local Bridal shows. I still get a tremendous buzz when photographing a wedding, with no two weddings the same, each with their own challenges and characters.

I live for my photography, constantly gaining inspiration from magazines, television etc. Each time I shoot a wedding I try and create something special and unique for that client.

I am a self-taught photographer, having learned the craft using film cameras and trying to get all the elements of the picture such as lighting, exposure, and composition right in-camera. Nothing teaches you more about exposure than shooting a roll of Kodachrome!

Along came digital technology, which I fully embrace, but I still apply the principles of getting it right in the camera. Yes, there is no doubt digital imaging and software such as Photoshop have their place and return a great deal of control of the final image to the photographer but I look at them as just another tool in the photographers kit-bag to produce the highest quality photographs for my customers. On the wedding day I not only capture the people and places from the wedding but also try to tell the story of the day and show the love between the couple.
